Iosif Patriciu and the School Inspection in Moldavia (Mid Nineteenth Century)

Abstract This paper takes on the role of reconstructing Iosif Patriciu’s case during his mandate as deputy general inspector schools from Moldavia (autumn 1851-summer 1852). Overlooked by literature, he quickly arose, becoming a Latin, Arithmetics, and History teacher at Codreanu School in Barlad passing exam, October 1846, later, director Internat Iaşi member & secretary for Council. As schools, proved to be striking opponent all teachers who made habit out skipping classes or treated their job superficially, mentioned reports sent Department Education (Departamentul Învăţăturilor Publice). He proposed solutions lower high rate pupil absenteism with Council, using German law reference. Patriciu had manage challenging collaboration Department’s director, Grigore Cuza, because misunderstandings while enforcing new curriculum primary secondary classes. His ended when August Treboniu Laurian, arrived Iaşi, whom will have worked closely until beginning 1858.
